Boxing enthusiasts are in for a treat this week, with a busy programme of action on several continents. From Keith Thurman’s third-round knockout win in Australia to three world title bouts in Japan, there is something for all boxing fans.
Thurman’s Triumphant Return:
Keith Thurman began the week with a one-sided third-round knockout of Brock Jarvis in Sydney.
Although Jarvis had a great beginning, Thurman’s power and experience were too much to handle, resulting in a fireworks-filled finish.
The victory represents Thurman’s second bout since July 2019, demonstrating his return to the boxing ring.
Tokyo’s Title Bonanza:
Tokyo is where the action unfolds, with three world title bouts on a stacked card.
In the headlining bout, WBC flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji will take on WBA champion Seigo Yuri Akui in an eagerly anticipated unification battle.
WBO flyweight champion Anthony Olascuaga defends the title against Hiroto Kyoguchi, who could be providing a future future unification bout.
WBO junior flyweight champion Shokichi Iwata defends the title against Rene Santiago.
There is some of the best in the world at flyweight to be seen on this card.
Ball Defends in Liverpool:
Nick Ball makes a defense of his WBA featherweight championship against TJ Doheny in Liverpool.
Ball, having a good 2024, now takes on old veteran Doheny, who has just had a fight against Naoya Inoue.
Ball’s youth and inherent featherweight edge make him the favorite, but Doheny’s experience should not be underestimated.
Orlando’s Undercard:
The week wraps up in Orlando with a middleweight bout between Austin “Ammo” Williams and Patrice Volny.
Though a lower level card than the others mentioned above, it still offers quality boxing.
Key Highlights:
An international boxing schedule with bouts in Australia, Japan, and England.
A unification bout in Tokyo featuring the flyweight division.
Keith Thurman’s knockout win showing his continued strength.
Nick Ball retaining his title in his native country.
